About the artist and the album:

Anthony Moore (born August 13, 1948, in London) is a British composer, musician, and producer, a key figure in experimental music and avant-pop since the 1970s.

In 1972, Moore founded the "naive rock" and avant-pop trio Slapp Happy in Hamburg, along with Peter Blegvad and his future wife, Dagmar Krause. They recorded iconic albums such as *Sort Of* (1972) and *Casablanca Moon* (1974). The group briefly collaborated with Rock-in-Opposition pioneers Henry Cow on albums such as *Desperate Straights* and *In Praise of Learning* (1975).

His early solo work, such as *Pieces From the Cloudland Ballroom* (1971), explored minimalism. Later, he released cult albums that blended pop with experimental textures, most notably *Flying Doesn't Help* (1979) and *World Service* (1981). Recently, the Drag City label has unearthed archived material, including the albums Out and Home of the Demo (2024).

Moore is widely known for his work as a lyricist and collaborator with Pink Floyd after Roger Waters' departure. He co-wrote hits such as "Learning to Fly," "The Dogs of War," and "On the Turning Away" for the album A Momentary Lapse of Reason (1987).
He contributed lyrics for "Wearing the Inside Out" to The Division Bell (1994) and participated in the instrumental album The Endless River (2014). He also collaborated closely with Richard Wright on his solo album Broken China (1996).

Moore has maintained a distinguished academic career in Germany. He was a professor of sound research and rector of the Academy of Media Arts Cologne (KHM) from 2000 to 2004. He is currently active, creating sound installations and electroacoustic music with labels such as Touch Records.

Out is his fourth studio album, recorded for Virgin Records after the breakup of his avant-pop band, Slapp Happy. It was produced by Peter Jenner (former manager of Pink Floyd). Andy Summers (who would later join The Police) played guitar, and Kevin Ayers also contributed vocals. The album marks a transition from his minimalist and avant-garde roots to a more accessible, though still experimental, "avant-pop" sound.

Despite being ready for release in 1976, Virgin decided to cancel it and shelve it for decades. It wasn't officially released until 1997 on CD through Blueprint.

The Drag City label released a definitive version on vinyl and digital on November 20, 2020. The reissue restored the original artwork by Hipgnosis studio.
