Blue Mink
About the artist and the album:
Blue Mink was a prominent British pop and soul band active primarily between 1969 and 1974, known for their vocal harmonies and themes of unity and optimism.
Formed in London in late 1969 by keyboardist Roger Coulam as a project of session musicians at Morgan Studios, they achieved six UK Top 20 singles.
The core lineup consisted of vocalists Madeline Bell and Roger Cook, accompanied by Alan Parker (guitar), Herbie Flowers (bass), Barry Morgan (drums), and Roger Coulam (keyboards).
Although originally conceived as a studio band, their rapid commercial success led them to perform live and tour. They released five studio albums.
Following their breakup, the members continued with successful solo careers. For example, Herbie Flowers played in the band Sky and contributed to Lou Reed's album Transformer, while Madeline Bell maintained a solid career as a solo artist and backing vocalist. In April 2024, original members Madeline Bell and Roger Cook reunited for a special concert in London.
Fruity is the fifth and final studio album by the British pop band Blue Mink, originally released in January 1974. The album was produced by David Mackay and recorded at Morgan Studios. It blends genres such as pop rock, soul, and psychedelia, characteristic of the band's sound in its later years.
It was the group's farewell album, and they disbanded in the autumn of that same year after a tour of the United States.
Later reissues (such as the 2006 Japanese CD version) included bonus tracks like "Get Up," a song that later became a disco hit under the title "7-6-5-4-3-2-1 (Blow Your Whistle)."
