About the artist and the album:

Robert John Godfrey (born July 30, 1947) is an influential British composer, pianist, and musical director, best known as the driving force behind the symphonic rock band The Enid.

Prior to his solo career, he was resident musical director for BJH. His vision was instrumental in integrating orchestras into rock, contributing to iconic tracks such as "Mocking Bird" and "Galadriel." His departure was marked by legal disputes over songwriting credits that persisted for decades.

Following his solo debut, he founded The Enid, a unique band that fuses the power of rock with the scale of Romantic classical music. Unlike other progressive rock groups, The Enid focused almost exclusively on highly complex instrumental compositions.

In 2014, he received the Visionary Award at the Progressive Music Awards for pioneering crowdfunding models through his fan club, The Enid.

Fall of Hyperion is his debut solo album, released in 1974 on the Charisma Records label. It was recorded between September and November 1973 at Sarm Studios.

This album is a key piece of progressive and symphonic rock, considered the direct precursor to his famous band, The Enid. It fuses complex orchestral arrangements with rock instrumentation, notably featuring the Steinway piano and Mellotron.

In addition to Godfrey, it featured contributions from musicians Jim Scott (The Pretenders) and Tristan Fry, a percussionist who would later join the band Sky.
